Ugh, tell me about it! My petunias drowned and I have to pick slugs out of Kayla's fur after she's been in the backyard. Can I get an extension on my "summer" vacation?
The whole continent has flipped its weather! You are drowning and we've had one day of rain in about 6 weeks. Vancouver has had its two hottest days ever and we are supposed to be 30C (90+)or more for another week. Even the patio at the restaurant was closed for dinner last night since everyone wanted to be in the a/c. My house was 91F at 9pm last night. Our numbers are nothing compared to what you usually have, but we don't have a/c in our houses.
Slugs, yuck! Do have the banana slugs? Not so fond memories of church camps up the coast where it really is rain forest. Those babies really are as big as a banana!
We used to say "Don't mess with Mother Nature".. Mom Nature must be having a laugh this year!
YIKES about the banana slugs! That would scare the bejeepers out of me! No, the slugs I pull out of Kayla's fur are small but very slimy and gross. It's disconcerting to be petting her and come across what feels like a blob of mucous. bleck!
Tony, I've been thinking, if the amount of rain we've had had been snow, it would be over our roof by now! I think the conversion is about 1 inch of rain = 1 foot of snow, depending on the fluff factor.
Meggie, when we were in London there was a massive heat wave with temps in the 90's and no one has ac there either. Mamma mia, we were ROASTING in the flat we rented!!! Plus, being in a city, the windows only opened 4 inches and there was only one rotating fan. We stuck that between the two bedrooms -- with the result that no one felt it. Even places that said they were air conditioned had a way different definition of air conditioning, LOL! Some just meant they had a vent system that moved air around, it wasn't cool at all! I'm the only person I know who came back from England with a tan.
Banana slugs = Banana Ick! Touch a slug and you've been slimed! We've had a gusher monsoon today. Even the slugs were trying to get away from it all. They were crawling up the side of my house.
The weather patterns are nuts. The El Nino messes with the jet streams. Usually an El Nino means a mild winter for New England. The jet streams go through a shift in the fall. Things could change then. ..... Does anyone pay attention to the El Nino/La Nina in the Pacific?
My neighbors are on vacation this week but are receiving e-mail. I sent them a note telling them they could save a ton on their grocery bill after they get home. They could have their kids go find their own supper in the yard every evening. Slugs could be toasted like marsmallows.
LOL about declining any invite to bbq's at Ruff's place! I was thinking the same thing. Ick!
And double ick about the slugs who are the size of a banana... and about petting Kayla and finding one in the fur. That grosses me out just to think about it.
I did laugh at the comment that the plants need snorkles and the one I read (was it in another thread?) where even the slugs are trying to climb out of the excessive wetness. Oh, you have definately had more than your fair share of the rain and I hope it will dry up for you soon.
