According to this article, the full 4 minute GL tribute video had to be cut to fit the time constraints (we wouldn't want to cut Vanessa Williams dance number, now would we) but the link above has the uncut version. There are some wonderful memories and a much more fitting tribute than the one we saw on the Emmy telecast.
Wow, thanks for finding and posting that, meggie! I had read that Frank D was upset that they had cut a lot from what was originally planned and now I see what he meant. This is what SHOULD have been shown.......a perfect blend of the old & the new GL. Really a disgrace that the CW had to edit it the way they did, but thats what happens when you have a network that doesn't even have soaps try & put something like this together.
While I was very annoyed to discover that they cut the tribute down (I mean, is 4 minutes really too much to ask for 73 years of programming?), I must say that I thought the 4 minute version could have been done better. The transitions were wonky and too much of that 4 minutes was wasted on intro stuff when show clips would have been better. For example, I'm glad they included the "There is a destiny that makes us brothers" bit, but it should have been played over show clips and not that stupid hand thing.
So, I think Guiding Light deserved AT LEAST 4 minutes of tribute (and I actually think 7 or so would have been more reasonable), but every second of the tribute should have packed a punch, and unfortunately, I don't think it did. THAT may actually be the reason it was shortened.
