With the new year approaching, is anyone making any resolutions? I have three that I'm going to try very hard to accomplish.
1. Lose 25 pounds. (It would have been 17 if I hadn't been so bad lately)
2. Get to know the neighbours. We've had a lot of new neighbours move in over the past couple of years and it's time I got to know them.
3. Do the Grouse Grind. This is a 2.9km trail up one of the mountains near Vancouver. It's known as 'Nature's Stairmaster'. I don't care how long it takes to go up but I'm going to make it. If you want to get an idea of the terrain, check out:
What a great video! I have to say, the climb up looked preferable to the sky ride down! YIKES!!! Why not just hand out parachutes?
I also commend your meeting of neighbors. That should be easy with little Beck in tow. Kayla's always been my icebreaker -- I meet neighbors whether I want to or not!
I don't make New Year's resolutions -- I make changes as I go along -- adjust what needs adjusting on an "as needed" basis. My current resolution is to work out 3 times a week. That was easy before I went back to work, but I'm finding it much harder to stick to now that my days are so full. I used to walk Kayla at least 2 miles a day plus ride my bike 3 times a week. I still walk Kayla every day (weather permitting, but I go out in almost anything), but it's so dark when I get home, we're lucky to get in a mile. I'm on my feet all day at work, so hopefully that counts for SOMETHING, LOL, but it's not aerobic (unless it's a kindergarten class).
Meggie, please be careful on that Grouse Grind -- looks hard on the heart. Reminds me of when we climbed the Hatteras lighthouse -- the end never seemed to be in sight! And there were all these warnings about heart attacks. Not inspiring!
I don't usually make resolutions either, but thought I might be more successful if I wrote it down and shared it. I won't to the Grind until I'm absolutely physically ready, but it's very popular and accessible. I found this video of a family doing it. It's a bit longer but shows a lot of the trail.
LOL about the gondola ride. I've been up and down the gondola several times when I used to ski. You'll see it often in Feb. because the NBC Olympic broadcast centre will be up at the top of Grouse.
I think if you make it to the top of the Grind, you should plant a quilt flag there (now that your quilts are getting international recognition). Wouldn't it be great to see a Meggie quilt flying during the Olympics?!
ps. If they call it the Grind, they should have a nice coffee shop at the top (though I loved it in the video when the guy said, "There had better be a bar at the top!" LOL!).
