In anticipation of 5-7 inches of snow with horrid road conditions, there were a bazillion closings announced this AM. Well.......It didn't even start until around noon and, in my area, it is a thin snow so far. The bird feeder is barely covered.
Earlier this week, I caught a Julia Childs episode on PBS. She did a rotisserie chicken. My oven has a rotisserie. It has been years and years since I've used it but today seemed like the right day to give it a try. I have no idea how this is going to turn out.
What a bust of a Nor'easter, but what an ideal snow day -- a day off and I don't have to shovel! Now I won't hit Feb. vacation feeling like a zombie. I'm not complaining.
Re: Julia Child, did you see "Julie and Julia"? What a great movie! I don't even like cooking, but I was fascinated by Meryl Streep as Julia Child. Turns out my mother in law had a bit of a correspondence and phone relationship with Julia Child. My mil used to work for a foundation called "Well Spouse" and Child was a strong supporter of the organization (she may have been a "well spouse" herself -- don't know what happened to her husband?).
By the way... I just saw Julie and Julia last weekend. I LOVED it! I loved how passionate Julia Child was... about her husband, about cooking, about life!
And I noted with interest how much taller she was than her husband... LOL.
This was our biggest storm so far this year, about 10 inches. Maybe 1-2 more. It was suppose to be bigger. It didn't start until around noon. Everything in the town closed last night, but it didn't start getting bad until late afternoon. I hope they just have tomorrow off from school again. Friday & Monday we are off for Presidents weekend, so they might as well have tomorrow off and make it a 6 day weekend!
Some of the kids here are going into their 9th straight day off from school (NOT counting weekends). I don't think we're expected to get any more precipitation until Monday, though, so maybe they'll get in 1 day of school tomorrow!
Of course, there's still snow and ice everywhere, and our temps won't get high enough to melt it. Or, it gets to 34 or 36 for two hours in the middle of the afternoon and melts enough of it to run across the roads and get school cancelled again!
I've had one official snow day and one unofficial one. I wouldn't mind a few more! Although I do kind of wish it would warm up in between the snows long enough to melt away the old stuff. I don't think that's going to happen though.
Amanda, I hope your snow melts gradually. The ONLY time we've ever had water in our basement was about 8 years ago in March. We had at least 3 feet of snow on the ground, then we had a sudden warm up and about 4 inches of rain on top of it. The ground water rose so high, it bubbled through the porous sections of cement in our basement (along the edges). So you are right to want some gradual melting. If it goes all at once, it can be a big problem.
