Where are the praries in Canada? It makes sense that there are praries in Canada but I have always thought of (lower) Canada as being rocky jagged mountains, sharp, steep hillsides and gorgeous irregular lakes and water ways with huge tall evergreen trees everywhere.
The Canadian prairies start on the east side of the Rocky Mountains and go to the Ontario border. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the Prairie provinces, very, very flat. Once you get into Ontario, you get the landscape of lakes and tall pine trees.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the ceremonies last night. VANOC did itself proud with them. And your city looked abolutely beautiful last night......NBC did a lot of aerial shots & of course followed Gretz from the stadium to the outdoor caulderon. Here's to an exciting & successful next 2 weeks.
Joel is right! Vancouver has done itself proud. It is beautiful and HUGE! The scenery, with all of the water ways and coast lines is breath taking. The mountains are stunning. Canada's amazing wealth of natural resource is a priceless gift to our planet.
Vancouver is gorgeous! I loved watching all my favourite spots and seeing so many people I admire. I can even accept Gretzky as the final torch bearer/cauldron lighter!
I'm so glad you all enjoyed it. Everyone here has been anxious with the anticipation, wanting it to be wonderful. We watch football at BC Place and it's a very barebones, concrete structure with plain blue seats and a white fabric roof. The transformation was incredible and I'd love to know how they did all the special effects.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the Games! Hopefully, the sun will come out and you can see the area at its best.
I loved the part of the show where the floor looked like the ocean and the whales were swimming through... that was incredible! The polar bear was wonderful, and they obviously went to a lot of trouble to make such an extraordinary creature, so it's too bad that they used it for such a short time. I LOVED how they chose to light the Olympic cauldron... what a great idea to use several people instead of just one torch bearer! Great great idea! I thought the performers were fantastic. The only part of the program that I didn't like was the prairies/flying/clouds part. Otherwise, well done Vancouver!
