The Boston channel says there's been a ton of rain out your way. They are showing some serious flooding videos. The governor is declaring an emergency. How are things for you?
My son in Providence said there isn't flooding in his area but said there are downed trees. He is at home and has been hearing lots of emergency vehicle sirens.
This storm is a Nor'easter and has dumped about 7 inches of rain within the past 2 days. Normally it takes a whole month to just get 4 inches. It's March. This should have been a blizzard.
Every one and every thing here is flooded. The last time we had water in our basement was 8 years ago, but at least we still have the pumps from that and they still work. It's a lousy stinking mess and I hope it stops SOON!!!
I am so sorry this is happening to you. At the same time I am extremely thankful that you have the pumps. This would be a good deal worse for you if you had no way to clear out the water.
I hope that all you have in your cellar is rain water. Is there mud in it? A couple of interviewees on Channel 5 reported that the sewer lines are backing up through the toilets into their homes. They said everything is ruined and the stench is horrible. Hopefully all that you have is water.
According to your 10 day weather forecast, you still have rain tonight but then you will have 6 whole days of sunshine with upper 50 temps.

Oh Karen, that's awful! I hope the rain stops soon and you get the water out without much damage! I'm sure a nice desert vacation sounds good about now!
My son and his college friends are out in LA and Vegas, speaking of desert. I told him they got out of here just in time, though the CA kids have probably never seen this much water outside the Pacific Ocean or their swimming pools, LOL!
Believe it or not, still a little spring of groundwater coming up in one corner of the basement, but one pump is holding it steady. Heat and hot water are back that is heavenly!!!
While I was walking Kayla, I ran into a ServPro guy cleaning out a neighbor's basement. He asked if he could pet Kayla and she was doing her happy prancing dance, so I said she would love it. He said he missed his dog. Turns out they were from CHICAGO! I saw the vans with Illinois plates. Apparently the local ServPro work force couldn't keep up with demand so they called in reinforcements from around the country. Chicago?! That's pretty far away! My poor neighbors lost carpeting and what looked like pretty nice leather furniture in their finished basement. People (like us) are getting water who don't normally have any problems in their basements. There's still an amazing amount of water down there in the groundwater!
Under normal conditions, how close are you to the water table?
Need to hand it to you KK. You are handling this extremely well. What do you anticipate your situation will be once the water issue is settled and done? Has dirt and mud come in with the water? Will there be mold or mildew concerns?
I suppose your neighbors furniture and carpet loss would have to be covered by flood insurance which they probably don't have. .... How expensive is it to have someone like ServePro come in and clean up a cellar? Again....Is flood insurance required to cover this expense?
Homes in and around Virginia Beach do not have cellars. That's tide water country.
We're lucky, it's just groundwater. Some neighborhoods have gotten sewage -- yuck!! When it starts to dry up, I'll set up fans and mop it down with bleach to cut the mold. Our basement is just cement, no dry wall, so pretty easy to clean.
We are fairly low to sea level, being only 12 miles from Boston. We are also on rocky ledge, so there's nowhere for the water to go other than up.
