KK.....What is Newberry Street about? I've been using it to get back to the MA Pike. It's loaded with pedestrians, lots of women, who seem to be shopping. There are tons of out door eating places. With the car windows open, the whole street is filled with the sound of conversation. Are there a lot of shops along Newberry Street? It is hard to tell because the outdoor cafes seem endless without leaving much room for store fronts. Everything is so busy and incredibly congested. I don't dare to take my eyes away from the street. It is a long street. The length of all this activity is unending.
Let's put it this way: I can't afford anything on Newbery Street, lol! OK, maybe a salad at an outdoor cafe. NOT for bargain hunters! But a beautiful, vibrant area to stroll around and meet for lunch if you ever want to get together.
Back when I was in high school in the '70's, the Back Bay was kind of run down. That's where I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight, lol! In the '80's it became gentrified and is now the posh boutique area it is today. It is fun, isn't it?! I know women who get their hair done on Newbery Street. I can't even begin to imagine what they pay for a trim!
Yesterday I found a Victorian shop in Quincy Market and would love to be there with my granddaughters. It was total browsing fun. The earings started at $63. The long, to die for dresses were $900 + and the tops were $400 + The jewelry was gorgeous. Where are people going when they wear stuff like this?
ya know, maybe it's because my parents were born during the Depression or maybe I'm just inherently cheap, but no matter how wealthy I was, I would not spend obscene amounts of money on clothing. Or hair. Or shoes. Or a car. I guess I'd rather GO somewhere than buy something. Plus I hate to shop, which helps considerably, LOL!
I am with you, KK! If I had copious amounts of money, mine would all go toward travel b/c I'd still hate to shop, and I'd surely hate to spend ridiculous amounts of money on clothes/shoes/etc. No thank you!
