It's time to consider hanging the spider plants in the sugar maples out front.  Normally I wait until the trees are fully leafed so that the plants are shielded from any full blast of sun but it's going to be cloudy for the next few days.  This morining, the first thing I did was go out on the deck to see the yard.  The maple leaves were tiny with still a full view of the sky and sun allowed through.  Now, at 11:30, I swear the leaves have gained a good amount of size since this AM!  The leaves are generally at full size by the end of May's first week.  ...............  The crab apples and lilacs are blooming.  The daffodills have had it.  I will miss them but will be moving a few more to the row across the front while I can still see where the empty spaces are.   They were very pretty this year.  At this point, the iris beds need tending, cleaning and fertilizing.  ...........  An amaryllis is going to bloom for me soon.  It was started very late but this tells me that they will still bloom if I do that which means maybe they could be treated like any non hardy bulb that must be dug up for the winter.  Hmmmmm!

I've been so busy trying to get  stuff finished before visiting the "kids" this weekend that I almost missed the amaryllis I had bloom... My azaleas are dying off at this point, I've had some roses bloom for me and last weekend I noticed one of my iris had blooms forming. My Easter lilies are all budded out so I should have blooms soon (probably both will perform while I'm out of state next weekend :P ) My tomato plant has flowers so I know to be looking forward to some tomatoes in the not so distant future. Since it's been a week since I was out in my yard, I think I'll close here and go see what my plants are doing. I have never spent so much time neglecting my yard as I have lately... sigh...

There just isn't enough weekend to my weeks, nor enough time in my days...

It is very very hard to take care of everything in your life while working 40 hrs per week.  I used to spend whole entire weekends weeding iris beds, could never keep up with all of it and had no time for much of anything else.  I really think the American work system should be revamped.  The 40 hour week makes work your whole life.  People lead multiple lives.  We need time for the other parts of who we are.  Weekends should be 3 days and there should be much more vacation time throughout the year.  Everyone would be so much happier.

Enjoy your 'kids' visit.  Have fun.  This is a joyful celebration time.  Looking forward to hearing about it when you return.

I couldn't agree with you more. Seriously.

I am back home again as of my last posting. I just went out to check the gardens found I have another orchid blooming and one just about ready to open. One of my iris opened while I was away but the other is just beautiful right now :) I'm glad I got to see it bloom. The yard is soooo dry that I went ahead and set the sprinklers to run now and twice next week. We are on watering restrictions so I've had them off for months while things went dormant. I'm going to lose plants if I don't get some water on them while I wait for the summer rains.

light - The plant places here sell orchids and can never see one without thinking of you.  You are truly fortunate to have those growing for you.  They are so beautifully unique.
