Wow, two cultural icons from my youth gone in one afternoon!
I wasn't one of those maniac MJ fans, but who could resist his dance hits like "Thriller" and "Beat It"? He was one month older than me, so I literally grew up with his music. I had a little record player and a 45 of "ABC" and I was mesmerized by his videos in the infant days of MTV. He got pretty creepy in his later years, but as a younger man he was an amazing performer!
My memory of Farrah Fawcett mostly has to do with The Poster that hung in EVERY freshman boy's dorm room in September 1976! And I wanted her hair!
The Burning Bed was much, much more than a achievment marker for Farrah. It was based on a true story and raised a huge awareness level for the plight of abused women. Spousal abuse had no where near the recognition, understanding or insight then as it does now. In my mind, no matter how wonderful her other accomplishments were, this one was her greatest.
EVERYONE knows and likes Michael Jackson's music. How can you not? He's right there along side of Elvis and the Beetles.
