Thanks KK! I love Canada Day! Usually my family are in parades with my Father's Lions Club. This year my kids are at the cottage with my aunt so my day is a little quieter. This afternoon, i'm heading up to my brother's house for a BBQ and fireworks. After the fireworks... I have a date!
Things are a little strange in Toronto right now, there's a garbage strike going on so a lot of Canada Day activities have been cancelled. Fortunately, I'm heading north of city so there will still be fireworks.
It is supposed to be a rainy day.... right now we have sunshine, so here's hoping it lasts!
Happy Canada Day! We're enjoying glorious sunshine in the mid 20'sC (it's Canada Day! no Fahrenheit translation today), comfortably warm without the real heat. I've been for a long walk with my friend and we'll probably head down to the festivities later this afternoon. The town puts on a big multi-cultural day with lots of bands and kids, then fireworks when it gets dark.
People are wearing red and white, lots of maple leaf flags are flying from houses and cars, and everyone seems genuinely happy and content.
We have an extra smile because the Sedins signed a five year deal with the Canucks just before the deadline. Ol' Sneaky isn't getting them back in Toronto!
KK, I enjoyed the article you posted. My ex-in-laws from Boston used to stock up on Coffee Crisps any time they visited and Dave was under orders to bring a box when he went. I don't know where they are getting their CC fix now.
We have a little while to go before the fireworks since it isn't dark until after 10 pm right now.
I decided today that this is my favourite holiday. There are no cards, no gifts, no costumes, no elaborate meals, no decorating except putting out the flag, no fancy dresses needed. The weather is usually wonderful, meals are simple, usuallly cooked by men and eaten outside. There are parades, flags, and fireworks, two CFL football games, and a holiday in the middle of the week. It just doesn't get any better than that.
LOL Meggie, you've definately got a point :D Sorry to come in late with my wishes for a happy Canada Day for you gals but I neglected to see that on my calendar. Hope the days were as much fun as what they sounded...
meggie, you must be on the far left side of your time zone if you must wait until 10:00 for darkness. Here it's dark enough here to start our fireworks at 9:30.
