We had the most AMAZING week on the Outer Banks. (sorry that color is blinding on my monitor!). The weather was PERFECT -- well a tidbit HOT -- 90's with heat index over 100 -- but it's been such a cold, rainy summer here, we really didn't mind. We bought a couple of cheap beach umbrellas (second one half off) and went into the water every 10 minutes and it was bearable.
The first three days, we had perfect breakers for boogie boarding and body surfing and gentle swells beyond the breakers for lazy swimming and floating about. We saw dolphins every day until Bill made his swing by. The waves started whipping up on Thursday and by Friday and Saturday they put up the red flags, meaning no swimming. By Saturday, there was no beach to sit on, the waves were coming up so high. I fell into a sink hole up to my knees, which was kind of scary. Kevin stepped on a sting ray, but didn't get stung, thank goodness!
We had a lazy, sultry, southern week and ate our weight in seafood and NC barbeque.
Glad to have you back! I've been thinking about you and Bill (hmmmm... does that make you KKill!) all week, hoping it hadn't affected you. The sinkhole and stingray were scary but otherwise it sounds like you had a perfect week of sun and surf.
Good thing seafood is low cal. Not sure about NC bbq.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome back to the inner banks! Kayla must have been wagging her whole entire body when she saw you. Glad you had a good week.
Love your pics. I think the sunset shot is a top favorite because of the color's interaction between sky and the water. Also, the lone figure, your son, really accentuates the vastness of the space. Nice!
