Tom Pelphrey is joining the cast at ATWT.  This is awesome news.  His Emmy award winning talent is unsurpassable.  And look out because which ever character he plays is going to be very interesting.

I'm really surprised by this one.  I hope this is not the beginning of the end.  It's not that Tom's not a good addition, it's just this when they start bringing a lot of new people in I get leary about how much longer ATWT is going to continue being on the air--and out of Brooklyn.  Do you suppose this is why they let Austin go?  Budget has to be a concern.

What do you think?

I'd watch Tom Pelphrey do anything, so I'm very excited by this!!

Also, Austin's exit was not a budget matter, and while Tom Pelphrey's worth went up exponentially while he was on GL, I'm sure he'll probably still go in making less than Austin was. That's purely conjecture, mind you. I'm just thinking about how many years Tom's been in the business vs. Austin Peck.

i sort of agree with jo on this one. there have been a LOT of newbies lately (mostly from other soaps), which can only mean less screen time for characters and actors we already know and love. you gotta think that every time they add to the cast, they have to subtract. they can only fit so many people into 40 minutes a day!

that being said, although i've never watched gl, i like what i've seen of tom pelphrey. i just hope his character and storyline makes sense in oakdale.

It is my impression that Tom Pelphrey is doing only a brief stint on ATWT.

I *hope* it will turn into more, but as of right now, it's short-term.

I think having Tom on ATWT is a smart move to grab GL viewers who won't have a show to watch anymore, but will sample ATWT purely because this extremely popular GL actor is going to be on it.

Ouch!  I was really hoping Tom would be part of the show for a good while and perhaps become permanently connected in the process.

He will definitely draw some GL viewers.

Well, you never know -- they may find a way to get him to stick around!

But, I feel like he is still very much interested in doing other projects and doesn't want to be tied down too long to one thing.

He is greatly talented, and I think an opportunity will probably pop up for him to do film or primetime TV, and he could have a lengthy career and be well-respected in his field.

Doing a soap is really great in that the work is steady, and it provides a stable job for actors who are married with children and want to stay in one area on a permanent basis. For a younger, charismatic actor like Tom, I'm not sure he's quite ready to settle into that lifestyle.

Hmmmm- -I hadn't thought of his bringing more viewers to ATWT.  That might well be the thinking and a valid reason to bring him on, aside from his acting ability.

I just set my season pass to atwt (from GL cry.gif) in BIG part because TP is going there.  Sorry to hear it may be temporary -- makes me feel like they're taking advantage of a vulnerable audience who's still in mourning. hmm

GL was in my family 5 generations, so the 3 surviving generations (me, my mother and my kids) want to find a show that we can all watch.  My mother, bless her heart, taped all the soaps and "auditioned" them.  She said ATWT was the best written and acted of the bunch, so we've made a family decision to give it a go.

Maybe some other GL alums will show up.  I think Robert Newman/Josh is too good, and too good looking, to disappear.  It would be so nice to see him pop up somewhere.

KK!  What a delight to see you over here!

I'm not sure it's possible to imagine "Josh" as someone else!
It feels weird to even think that.

How many mom's would do what yours has done?  I love it!   Can we meet her?

If you have any questions or are wanting updates, ask away.  It will be fun helping you get up to speed and on board.

One of the things I like about ATWT is the regard for its history.  We still see Helen Wagner from time to time.  She's an original cast member who's been playing Nancy Hughes since 1956.

Actually, the longevity of ATWT is a big factor in our choosing it as our next soap.  I need to watch a soap older than me, LOL!

When I was in third grade we lived in Stamford, CT, right outside of NYC, and one of my friend's aunts was on ATWT.  I can't remember her name (the aunt's name, I remember the girl).  I'll have to do a little research on her -- she was on a long time.

My mother was also taken with B&B because there's an older woman on it who appears to be having a stroke and my mom wanted to see what happens to her.  smile
