Useless oven knob = YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Due to Christmas and two upcoming major family dinners, it is time for some thorough cleaning and the kitchen is now IT!  Tonight it was time to tackle the oven.  This included the oven knob.  Well I cleaned it all right.  All the temp settings came right off!  The only one left is "OFF"   It's a Modern Maid built in oven which was installed when the house was new in 1973.  They don't make these ovens anymore.  The serial and model numbers aren't recognized in the on-line sites.  You can bet I'll be on the phone tomorrow!  There's got to be an oven dial somewhere that will fit.  There better be!  There has to be!!!! It's going to look weird.  Ick!

Oh my, Ruff, you do get yourself into some situations.  Modern Maid will be in for an earful tomorrow.

I hope you find your dial and manage to get your oven fixed.  Is there any possibility that any of the houses in the neighbourhood would have the same stove so you could use them to put the numbers back on with a sharpie?

Went to a small kitchen appliance guy today.  He's going to check on several things plus he had a pretty creative attitude.  We'll see how it goes.

Problem solved:

The appliance guy did some research.  He was really fabulous.  He actually spoke with someone who works in a repair place that specializes in appliance parts for all kinds of older appliances.   My oven, along with its parts is outdated but there was a photo of the knob on line.  I was able to print the dial image in its original size, then cut out the rim which has all the markings on it and fit it onto my dial.  The 'OFF' dot and the 'BROIL' dots are aligned and the new rim is taped to the dial at that point.  This should be very close to accurate.  And, since it is a photo copy, it also looks like the original dial.  Most people won't notice it unless I tell them about it.

WOW!  Impressive!  It would be a shame to buy a whole new stove for a dial! blankstare

Wonderful idea! :) Glad to see the problem solved. I have an issue with the numbers of my stove/oven on the unit itself, rather than the knob and when I clean, I cannot clean that area because the numbers want to wash off like yours did. It's not like it's that old either, only dates back to 1995- poor planning imo. They really should use more durable paint or cause the numbers/heat level markings to be elevated so that you can at least locate them thru feel.

You've certainly given me an idea, though- and it starts with taking a picture of it now :)
