Snow, down here? Yep, I woke up to the news that one of the counties in my tv viewing area was having some sleet and snow flurries. I've seen it twice before since living in FL but it's one of those rare ever few decades things... We've got light rain right now but if it cools off much more, we can see the snow come down, too. Brrr!!
Nice day to be a quilter ;) :) Definately a nice day not to have to go anywhere!
Hope you all are staying warm and dry up where you are...
Well, light, I'm in Florida too, but I just got back from north of Chicago, so this weather is better than it was there. I'm staying in for the most part and inviting friends to come to my house for dinner and cards. A good way to "work down" my freezer and have fun as well.
Somebody has been messing with Mother Nature! You have cold and snow in Florida, and here we are in Vancouver, five weeks away from hosting the Winter Olympics, and it's over 50F. My daylilies are coming up!
Good plan, ladies to stay in, quilt and stay warm.
Light, when you get enough to make a snow angel, please post a picture for us! Jo, you must be glad to get out of Chicago -- sounds VERY frigid there!
I'm loving my new down coat, but even with an ear warmer and hood up, my ears are still a bit numb from walking the dog. Can't wait till I can bend my fingers again, LOL!
Meggie, surely it's snowy in the mountains? The snow events must take place up there, otherwise why did they pick Vancouver. You've mentioned it's fairly temperate where you live.
My backyard is still completely snow covered -- they could come ski here! I've also heard conditions up in VT and NH are awesome, so if any of you dig powdered snow, come on up!
We do have a temperate climate, but not usually this temperate in January. The big skiing and alpine events will be held at Whistler which is a couple of hours north and has tons of snow, but it's even been raining there the last few days. Our local mountains will have the snowboarding. They've been making snow up there for months, but really need some colder weather to hold it. The mountain in the photo I posted on Facebook is nearly bare and there is usually lots of snow on it until late April or May.
Any other year we'd be thrilled with this warm weather. No one seems to be panicking yet and it's supposed to cool off later in the week.
I hope the Easterners get some relief soon!

It is soooooo cold. 12 degrees here today. And that's not counting the wind chill.
We're used to getting pretty cold during the winter, but this cold blast seems longer and more biting than usual.
The snow we got before Christmas is still hanging around in many places.
I either want more snow, or some warmer temps! Actually, I think we'd need warmer temps to even GET more snow. The trouble is that we've been so rain prone lately, so if we get rain now, it's going to be one heck of a mess.
I am going to Wilmington this coming weekend, and I'd really like to have some of that 50 degree weather to walk around in!
There is one thing I look forward to at this time of year is oranges. This is orange season. I LOVE the fresh oranges and will buy my favorites by the bag full. I have a juicer. There is nothing more wonderful than a huge tall glass of fresh orange juice. Tropicana can't touch it! Another thing I love is to cut 1 or 2 oranges up, trimming away all the skin and strings so that I have a dish of fresh, pure, meaty, mouth watering juicy orange chunks. It is heaven in a bowl. What is happening to the orange crop right now is just horrible! I keep hoping beyond hope that the Floridian farmers can save their crops but I don't know how. This has been much more than a simple singular blast of cold air.
I'm with you, Ruffles. I have two orange trees and a couple of times a week I squeeze oranges for my own use and more often if I have company.
I've invited neighbors to pick oranges on the outer part of my trees and am hoping that the inner ones will stay good. Although we've had some hard freezes, ours have not been as bad as the northern part of Florida.
That's funny, Libby... we were in the 50's today, too. I'm betting our perspective differs on what that 50 feels like though ;)
We've got a LOT of crops all across FL that have suffered and are probably a loss, but of course the oranges are the most well known of our produce. We've had a number of fish farms that have had to go to heroic measures not to lose all the fish, too. I've had ice on my windshield every day for the past 11 days and it's time for a warm up, imo. You should see my poor plants...
