At the risk of being labled a "traitor"......GO TEAM CANADA!!!!LOL Reason is I so badly want my man Sidney Crosby to add a Gold medal to his Stanley Cup Championship & of course there is also Roberto "Bobby Lou" Luongo & Marc-Andre Fleury, who I want to have that gold medal.
As I mentioned on FB, you know my boys are HUGE Devils fans and even huger Martin Brodeur fans. We even have a Marty Brodeur magnet on our fridge (which my Rangers fan husband tolerates very nicely, I must say). This will be a tough one. We may be Switzerland here (thank goodness THEY"RE not playing! LOL!).
Hmmm.........How long have we known each other? Plus kfc and sammie too! You guys are all so nice, it's not hard for something good to rub off. After all the pre game promos, I turned on the game with expectations that Canada would win. I was pretty well convinced that all Canadian kids start playing hockey before they are born. With the first goal happening as quickly as it did, I was instantly and completely committed to the USA team. It was a great game right up until the end. Now I want the gold for USA and plan to watch the next game.
Actually, Karen, we had that in our personal library at one point! LOL!
Yes, my brother in law truly was a zamboni driver...it's actually more of a refrigeration technician so there's more than just driving the machine, it also involves the maintenance of the ice, etc. That's how he and my sister met, they were both working in the same recreation centre. Now, he's actually the facility manager in charge of the technical side of the building operations. Head Zamboni man, maybe?!
And he has promised that as soon as Travis is old enough, he will give him a job as the Zamboni's assistant... Rink Rat.. lol!
How could Z-E-E be pronounced with a short E and a D at the end? It's a different word altogether.
So do your comics have zeds coming out of sleeping characters? Do you catch some zeds when you take a nap? Sorry guys, you're not gonna convince me of this one!
Actually, I don't think I've ever used that expression!
And the cartoons aren't going "zeeeeeeee", they're saying "zzzzzzzz" which is the sound Z makes.
I wrote a bunch of different responses here. Maybe it's a bit of a hot topic for me. I like that as Canadians we've been able to maintain the little things that make us different. And I worry that when you start changing a language because zed sounds silly and you don't see the point of spelling 'colour' with a "u" that you eventually create a whole generation who can't spell, can make a sentence with 5 characters (ie. c u l8r) and will never know the difference between there/their/they're.
The Canadian will now get off her grammarian soap box. Please continue with the regularly scheduled program. Brought to you, of course, by the letter "Z".
kfc, I have thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. Please keep your soap box handy so that we can do this again. You've introduced me to Zed. Because of you, Sammie and meggie, I have developed a most special fondness for Canada and all things Canadian. I wouldn't for all the world want you to change the 'colour' of your 'cheques' nor give up your Zeds. This is part of who you are. At the same time, I am definitely hanging on to my checks in their original color. Plus, I plan on continuing to catch my Zees as I like. This is part of who I am. With this in mind, there's no way I can pass up the opportunity to have a bit of fun between good friends when Zed and Zee bump into each other on our board. So, lets put a bow on your soap box and keep it handy.

Actually, Karen, it's Americans who are "different." Canadians have just kept the English way. Americans rejected all things English back in the 18th century. Ben Franklin was notorious for his belief in phonetic spelling. He probably would have loved l8r, LOL!
So you say zed and I say zee. I love it that we sparked an international incident! Don't matter to meee, I still luv Canada!
So back to the game, where has Crosby been? No points vs. the Russians, none tonight, is he finally going to break out against the Americans Sunday? I'm so sick to death of seeing his face all over the tv when they're promoting Canada's hockey games. The only good thing about the Olympics ending is that I won't have to cheer for the likes of him or Corey Perry anymore.
I love Drew Doughty and Jonathan Toews. I don't get to see them play much because they're in the western conference but they are fantastic players.
LOL Sammie! Tried as I could, it's just not in the cards for you to like my man Sid the Kid! Meanwhile, my worst nightmare is now a reality.....never in my wildest dreams did I think the US would play for Gold, so much as I wanted to see Sid/Bobby Lou/Team Canada get the gold, I now have to cheer on the US! Of course I'll be happy with whoever wins, but it will be weird for me to not actively root for Crosby for the 1st time ever.
Here's hoping for a great game no matter who ends up with gold!
I agree with Joel, it is sure to be a great game no matter who wins. It's like an NHL all star game! I have divided loyalties all over the place, but I will certainly root for Team USA. They don't frost their pucks...
