Yes, we adopted a six year old cat last Saturday. I posted about it on FB, so you probably saw it there. We're calling him Jake, after Jacob on Lost (well, don't tell Charlie that, lol!). He's a sweet tabby who is very friendly and exceedingly FAT! We thought about calling him "Big Baby" for Glen Davis on the Celtics or Geo for geodesic dome, but he seems like a Jake and he won't be fat forever if I have anything to do with it!
Awww... so you got him :) I'm so happy for him and you :) He's a good looking cat and I love the description they printed of him.
I was cleaning out the garage this weekend and decided it was time to let go of Taffy's old carrier so I stopped at the animal shelter on the way home to drop it off. While there, I took a little time to visit the animals. It's so sad to think of them being abandoned and wondering what they are thinking. There was one really sweet old cat (big, healthy 17 yr old gal!) who came over and asked for me to love on her. You've got to figure maybe at her age, this is someone who ended up dying or going to a nursing home but at anyrate, mighty hard for the 17 yr old cat to wonder why momma isn't coming back for her. So sad... really sad. If I didn't already have 2, with one who would really prefer to be an only cat, I'd have taken her home for her final years.
Jake is a lucky boy- I hope he settles in well for you.
I've only ever adopted kittens and they adjust quite quickly to a new home -- they don't know any better. Every day Jake gets a little easier in our home. He prefers the upstairs and seems scared of the higher ceilings downstairs. We made him his own room in our office, so he has a "safe" place to go, kind of like crate training a dog.
Kayla's jealous of any attention we give to Jake. If I call him, Kayla comes right over, lol! But she's remarkably laid back about the whole idea of a new cat. She was born to a breeder who had cats and we had Tiger when she got here, so she's very good with cats, she just doesn't speak cat very well. Cats don't get the play bow!
And at the same time decreasing the furry mouse family(ies) who are sharing our abode. Jake would be a great shipboard cat. He's quite a mouser for a hefty fella.
